Hi,
I recently bought a 1956 Cruizon skip boat. The engine is a 394 Olds. The Transmission is a Barr Marine and I cannot seem to find any information on it. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Post some photos of the transmission. Barr didn't
manufacture transmissions in 1956, most likely put their tag on one of the transmissions of the time ?

The "gits" of the transmission are probably Paragon or Capitol. Barr sold conversion kits with transmission and simply put a Barr labeled cover on the gear

I found a number on the transmission. (8-7006 E) I am not sure if this means anything but I still can't find any information on it really. All I really want to know is what type of oil to use in it and how much. If anyone knows where I could fine any information on it that would be great thanks for all the help so far.

That is a rare cool old marine gear, its different because its an auto/truck type clutch,
with a pressure plate and disc, the throw out bearing in photo depresses the fingers of the pressure plate letting the disc spin for a neutral ! the gear box should only have a foreward and reverse gear ? I would like a better photo of the lever to see how it releases the clutch and shifts the gear box ??

throw out bearing

The physical shape of the gear looks to me like a
Auto Engine Works, Inc, St Paul Minn " CAPITOL" barr trans

The company a few years later changed their name To the Capitol Gear Co., They made engines as well as all types of Machinery gear boxes for just about any application you can think of.

Auto Engine Works 1949
This is a different model gear, I posted it for the company info not a comparison of gear shape!

A 30 weight oil in cold country, down here in south Florida a 40 or 50 weight, fill until it comes out of the plug just above the Barr Marine name on the cover, grease the fitting at top, probably doesn't get oil to it ?

This another photo of the linckage. It is pretty clever the way it realeases and engages the clutch plate. I think it's just tricky with the adjustment to get the timing correct of the engagement and disengagement of the clutch plate.
