Thanks to those here who helped me ID the Frisco Standard I posted in January. So, let me explain the project I am helping with. A Columbia River double-ender was found and was awarded recognition with National Register of Historic Places. It was then tucked in a shed and worked on as time allowed by locals and basically forgotten for some time. Fast forward to today, and we have built a shelter at our local county park (right on the Columbia River) and want to put interpretive signage about all aspects of the boat, the engine and gillnetting.
This engine � which we feel was a huge improvement in the development of fishing the Columbia River, deserves its own panel. Yet, it is much harder for us non-old engine folks to develop the proper storyline and images. Furthermore, since the engine donated to the exhibit is so poor, we think it would be best to show photos and images other than this engine due to its poor condition.
If anyone can help us with this � we would be happy to give credit for the information and images provided. As far as monetary reimbursement, we are volunteers trying to tell a story about a boat, its engine and the fishing it has done, so the only compensation would be credit to your organization and names to credit on the interpretive signage.
This is what we would appreciate receiving; with permission to use:
2. A very short historical description of this type of engine and how it helped the fishing industry. (Two short paragraphs if possible.)
3. Any image of the Single Frisco Standard. As big as possible and high resolution � 600 dpi.
4. Any photos (scanned at highest resolution 600 dpi) of any style gillnet boats (oar, sail, and engine, fishermen working on, etc.)
4. Any more input, or ideas on how to get this part of the exhibit told well on a park-style interpretive sign would be greatly appreciated. (We found a delightful YouTube video on a restored and running Standard Frisco and thought having the engine sound playing by motion detector is one idea.)
