Palmer 134, Transmission work

The transmission is not working at the moment, and I would like to remove it to bring it somewhere to have it worked on. My goal is to do this with the boat in the water - perhaps lift the engine off its mounts, slide it forward to remove the shaft from the transmission, and then unbolt and remove the trans. I am basically just looking for advice, as this is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this, and this is also my first boat. Also looking for anyone in the New York tristate area who could potentially look at and/or work on the transmission. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. I always had trouble going into reverse. On my last sail I no longer have forward or reverse. The oil level was always o.K. but now is M.T. . There is no oil in the bottom of the hull and the engine level is normal. My clutches may now be worn to a useless state. Perhaps the oil went out with the cooling water ? Any idea on how to find a manual and how to order parts if needed ? If not I can send you pages from it perhaps (it is very long). I have also gotten the name of someone on Long Island (here in NY) who supposedly works on old Paragons, however I have not yet contacted him. His name is Bill Roe, of Bill Roe Marine.
