Eric, it's a Lockwood Ash or Motorgo, Sears Roebuck trade name for L-A. THe earliest L-A's had consecutive serial # for all motors. They changed their numbering system in the early teens, the model 24 included the 2 1/2 and 4hp, the model 68 included the 6 & 8hp. Serial # beginning with a 2, 4, 6, or 8 gave the hp, the next # were consecutive serial # for that hp. THe tag on mine is 6035, 35th engine in that series. The # should be stamped on the front of the crank, Jamie Hurry probably has a new tag for it. This motor is probably from the early to mid teens, it doesn't have the plate covering the intake ports, later engines had them, I have a picture of one below.
