Hi, After the overhaul of the Stuart Pm5 it was replaced in the boat, today we had a nice little trip, the engine runs quite well now, but at first it was rather dissappointing. It got way to much petrol. Turns out the jet is to big. I fixed it, "quick and dirty", with a piece of fine 0.25 mm copper wire in the hole of the jet, to reduce the flow of petrol. But of course it's not supposed to be that way. The hole in the yet is about 1mm big. The number on the jet is 75. In my world that means 0.75mm, but this is English, so the question is: do brittish jets have different numbers or did some previous owner make a bigger hole in it? I think a jet 75 with a hole 0.75mm would be about right. Does anyone have any information on how big the jet should be? |

Hi robsollart, I don't have a P5m carb to hand, but have had a look at the jet in my R3 Stuart. That is a number 32, and measures 0.63-0.64mm. I was under the impression that the number on the jet was not the hole size, but related to the volume of fuel it would pass in a given time under controlled/callibrated conditions. Hi Poppet, So they do have different numbers on english jets. To be sure, I just checked on a small Yamaha motorcycle, it has a jet number 80, with a hole of 0.8 mm. never seen it otherwise. But this is the first time I work on an english engine. Anyone with a P5 with Stuart carb who can tell me the size of the jet? I have a feeling that the engine should give more power, and I don't want it to run with a wire in the jet. Thanks |

I'm not familiar with Stuart Carb as mine has an Amal Carb. Might be worth contacting the technical area at Burlen Ltd. http://burlen.co.uk/?SID=mtpc4rhk9js85vau1bnjmt0p61&___store=default you will find them excellent. I've just had them provide a full NEW replacement to my Amal 622 matching the exact original build specifications which they still had on file. Regards |

Hey, that's strange, I see my latest post in this topic never was posted It turned out to be the exhaust! After I decarbonised the exhaust in a big fire I put it it back on, and than the engine could run with the original jet. |
