If someone would like to copy these plates there seems to be a need for them, I have cleaned and scanned this one I received (Thanks again, Derek). It measures 1.25" x 2.5", and .027" thick. (21 Gauge , American Wire Standard) The text is acid-etched of course. The word "Gray" was done in black paint, and the rest including the border, in red. The surface of the plate is chemically blacked to a dull grey. The image is as scanned in the first photo and inverted in the second.

Thanks for the clear scans. In my experience, most Grays did not have a brass tag, they had the serial number stamped on the flywheel, and on a boss on the side of the cylinder. I am sure this was done to save a little bit of money when Gray was in fierce competition with other engine makers. |

Bill, would I be correct in thinking that the Model T Grays always had such a tag? Those we've had photos of here seem to. |

when I come back from my trip, I might have some time to look, but I am more inclined to think that all Grays from a certain time period have tags, and after that, none. I have a T without a tag, but I don't have time right now to see if it was stolen. |
