Full photocopy of the Simplex manual with additional notations is available for A$20 + postage from Roger Prettyman at the Simplex Manufacturer: Hardman & Hall 3 Stanton Road Seven Hills NSW 2147 Roger's email contact is: [email protected] I know this because I am considering refurbishing a single cylinder simplix and Roger has been helping me with parts availability and prices. I would be interested to learn what your interest is. |

If your head is rusted out/cracked,then the chances are the block is not far behind. Heads from H&H are $350,complete blocks(valves,guides,studs,etc)$1951. Word of advice.WASH the parts thoroughly as quite often casting sand is still in them, especially in the intake port. They will also sell you a maggy at a price |

Ps .Roger is no longer there.Geoff now looks after this department. The simplex part of their business wouldn't be a quarter of one percent of what they do. Their main line is engineering gears and components for the mining industry. So dont expect to ring up and have a long chat about your engine . Nice people but very busy. |

If it is a 5hp 4stroke the gearbox is part of the main casting and it is a band/finger reverse gear type box,no dog clutch fitted The other gear box they use is on the 10/12 twins and the model D 4 cycle 6-7 hp Thrustmatic, which is a cone clutch type. The earlier reverse gear type was adjusted by tightening the nut on the reverse gear cam swivel (for reverse) and adjusting the set screws on the 3 brass figers for the forward gear(dont over tighten these as you can break the fingers) The thrustmatic is a bit more complex as you have to take the gear box apart and add or subtract shims and spacers.Gasket shims between the engine and gearbox operating housing for fwd gear adjustment 1/64th and 1/32nd shims are used. 5/16",1/64",and 1/32" spacers are fitted on the output shaft between the cone and the slider. A point to note is if you adjust one you have to adjust the other |

Hi guys if you want a starter motor generator try Cheaper Cart Parts, I have just bought one for my Simplex @ $399.00 as opposed to about $1200 for the Yamaha model the business advertises on the net and can be contacted at 0408485108, Phil sells Golf cart parts and as sourced these from Canada as a cheaper alternative to the Yamaha models |
