What is the difference between a M392, a M-60, and a P-60? |

The M-60 or P-60 came on stream in 1955. It remained in production for Palmer until they sold the design to Thermo Electron in June 1971. It was a conversion of the IHC Cub Lo-Boy C-60 engine. 4 cylinder approx 27 HSP at 3200 RPM . It changed names a few times over its production life. It was a major competitor to the Atomic 4 and had the advantage of of a three bearing crankshaft which gave it a very long life. Thermo Electron went on making the P-60 conversion and many of them are still in operational use today. For those which were used in salt water without heat exchangers they suffered serious rusting in the exhaust manifold and it is next to impossible to find a good replacement exhaust manifold today. The P-392 is 265 HSP at 4000 RPM V-8. That serial number puts it somewhere in the last years of Palmer about 1969-1971. Seems to be missing the last digit which would give the year. |

Thanks. I had no idea what the year is. I just went over and looked at the plate on the engine to look for that last digit and it is 9. So the serial number is 47446 9. |

So the engine was made in 1969. I have no data which would indicate what boat it might have been installed in. I would expect it was in a fairly large hull in the 40 foot class. Don't know if it was in a single or twin screw hull. |

Okay, thank you for all of the information you have given me about this motor. It will be a great help when I attempt to sell it. Thanks |
