Hi All, Dick Day's Son Jon passed away I will really miss Jon as the both of us spent just about all of our working lives in the automotive repair business. Maybe that was why communication with Jon was so easy and we had so much in common. Except for the barbecued alligator and groundhog stew. Here is his obit Jonathan Lewis Day passed away February 28, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He was born at South Ruislip Air force Base Hospital in Harrow, Middlesex, England on June 16, 1955 and lived in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, until his family returned to the States in 1957. He attended Severna Park High School and on his 18th birthday enlisted in the United States Navy and was based at Great Lakes. On June 14, 1986 he was married to Margaret Mary Broyles, originally from Connecticut. From a very early age, Jon exhibited a great interest in engines and machinery, especially antique marine engines, a passion he shared with his father. He was a top mechanic in great demand, and also worked on all manner of equipment, large and small at his home. In later years he became a parts salesman, using his expertise as a mechanic to give the customer what was needed. Jon was also called upon as an expert witness in court from time to time, when questions arose in traffic accident disputes. He also enjoyed metalworking, particularly in copper, designing attractive lawn ornaments and torchieres, along with his wife. Jon was always a kind, caring helpful neighbor and friend and became known as the "Mayor of Ponder Cove" Friends and neighbors looked forward to his cookouts and dinners as he was an adventurous cook, serving up everything from barbecued alligator and groundhog stew to ring cakes and souffles. He enjoyed country music as well as classical, Mozart and Vivaldi being his favorites. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Mary (Broyles) Day, his cat, LuLu, his parents, Richard Allen Day, Jr., and Barbara (Bingham) Day of Leonardtown, MD, a sister, Elizabeth (Day) Piner, (Charles) of Tabernacle, New Jersey, a sister-in-law, Valerie (Cease) Day of La Plata MD, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and two great nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Allen Day III in 2005, and a niece, Penney Nichols Patterson in 1993. A Celebration of Life will be held at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 West. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035 on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3 PM. Flowers are welcome, or if preferred, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401, or Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035 |

Ernie's kind words are very thoughtful for us at this difficult time. Jon and I had been talking what engines to bring to CMM 4 may only 2 weeks ago. Spinal Cancer is a killer and it destroy him in about three months. To all our friends in this really great group of antique marine engine collectors, restorers and their families. Thanks Ernie for the kind thought and we will pick up our boot straps and soldier on. Looking forward to seeing you all at CMM on 4 May. Just good friendships and a lot of incredible effort to try to understand why our predecessors did things the way they did. Regards to all Dick and Barbara Day |

I met Jon at the first CMM show I attended and every show after. I didn't really get to know him until the last two shows when Dick and Barbara had us as guest in their house, we spent a lot of time with Jon. I realized how much he knew about the mechanical world and especially his dad's hobby. I lost a friend. Dick & Barbara, I hope to see you in May. |
