Jerry : scanned through several old marine engine
lists, there was a John J. Leary engine maker in
Rochester N.Y. in the teens making two port
marine engines!

I brought a electrol boat motor that has lejay on a label. This electric motor has a green large top and I would guess the weight is about 25 lbs. I was wondering if anyone would know if this is a 6 or 12 volt motor and how old this motor is. Thanks, Larry

Hi, anyone have any information about a "LeJay model no. 51-A ELEC-TROLL" trolling motor? I bought this at a yard sale 35 or so years ago for $5.00 and been using it ever since. Works great! I'd just like to know more about it. Thanks, Shorty

I have a Red Lejay Electrol Troiling Motor that's in good condition and still runs. I've only seen one other like this and thats at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield Missouri and it is a display only. The ID Plate says...
Lejay Electrol S/N-46A22412 Volts-6-12
Model# 8612-4TS-PG5 Made in USA Minniapolis, Minn.
It's been in the family for years but it just sits in my storage shed in the back yard so I am doing some spring cleaning in the summer. If your a collector you will like this it's all original down to the paint and spring battery clamps. For Sale $500.00 located in Phx, AZ.

See pp187-88 in "The Old Outboard Book" by Peter Hunn 1st ed.[1994] They started in 1936 using a converted Model T generator as the power unit. The one pictured above appears to be from the early 50s. The company disappeared by the early 60s.
They promised 25 years of service from their units.
