My brother and I are republishing a World War II story about 18 Navy men who escaped the Philippines on the day that the United States surrendered to the Japanese (6 May, 1941). They made their 2,000 mile journey from Manila in the Philippines to Darwin, Australia in a 36 foot Navy motor launch that was powered by a Buda diesel engine. The reliability of the Buda engine saved their lives. We would like to add a page to the book that provides some information on the Buda engine that brought them to safety. Is there somewhere that we can go to get engine specifications, photo, and/or schematics. We think it was a four cylinder engine, but not much detail is provided in the book. |

In 1960, my first Duty Station in the U.S. Coast Guard, was at a Lifeboat Station,.on the Coast of Washington,USA..in Westport and One of our Lifeboats,..was the CG36469, 36ft. Lifeboat,..powered by a 6 cyl. Buda Diesel Engine...it always started and ran well, just smoking allot when she first started and or was running wide open underway during a Rescue Mission. We also had a 4 Cyl. Buda Diesel that ran the Air Compressor for the Costal Fog Horn and don't get me started on the antics we did to the Beach Comer/Lovers. |
