Bruce sent these Photos of two small WONDER mfg engines wanting to know if there was any additional info available since the postings in 2007 ?
Well not a lot but did come across these pages in a 1910 Wonder Catalog !

This 2 Hp eng also shows up in the 1906 catalog and that eng has the same mounting base design as Bruces engine here.

This is the 4 hp but I believe Bruces eng is an earlier version because of the mounting base design ?

Ther are another dozen engine photos in this 1910 catalog if anyone is interested I will scan and post them ?

Richard,
Any idea of the year of this engine. Water exits thru the cylinder rather than the head. It is still a wet head. Not sure how you can purge the air in that the water can just circulate around the cylinder. Nothing to force it thru the head. 3 1/2" bore. Different manifold. Bemius timer. No tag but has the #3000 stamper on the cylinders and water pump.
Keith,

Keith

Researching many of these old engine mfgrs and their engs can be a real challenge and the Triple above is one of those !
I have had photos of this nice old original Wonder triple for several yrs but have never been able to put an exact year of mfgr on it ?
Many of The 1910 multi engines have the bolt on manifolds as opposed to the metal strap or clamps, and the external brass exit water piping.
This 1914 photo ad shows a triple with the similar intake manifold design but with the later strap-clamps.

W1914

I believe your eng above is probably late 1910-11 ??

I see the rear head is loose maybe take head off and photograph the block passages to find water flow ?

this is a Syracuse triple of very similar year, J.B. pionted out that the water flow was into the side of cylinders through manifold then circulating the cylinder and exited out of the head at the small almost square port on the bottom of the photo and then back into the manifold and exiting at the pipe fitting on rear top of manifold, I am Wondering if the Wonder eng may have same design ??

Good stuff Cool Old Engines !

Richard,
I did check and the water can flow around the cylinder from the inlet to the exit. Nothing to force it up thru the head. The single cylinder #2547 shown above seems to be of similar design in that the water exits thru the cylinder rather than the head. It looks like a wet head also. Wonder? Wonder?

Richard, Any thoughts on how the 4Hp 2 cyl (Old base style Engine)with the aspirating carburetor might have taken in combustion air? Possible penetration/perforation into intake opposite the aspirating Carb???

Bruce, The answer is I Don't Know!

W4hpbase

I looked at every photo in my files of these engs
none have an original Cornwell- Wonder made carb ? it would have to be different than the 3 hp engine --

3br

3hpcat

-- and a more conventional design, allowing flow through itself, possible that the 4 hp was an illustration and they depicted the wrong carb for the 4 Hp model ??
I don't have a perfect photo of the inside of the intake manifold but from what I can see there is no opening there and all photos show only a pipe nipple on the out side ?
