This fellow has a one cyclinder Palmer with a 3/4 coupler. He wants $300 for it. It is complete. I was wondering how the cooling water is plumbed for my 18 foot inboard. There is a fitting on the top of the head. It has a water pump at the base of the engine. |

What does the serial number and model say on the tag. Do you have a photo?? |

I've got a Palmer bros Q1 engine serial 197602 is it a 1902 vintage?
it has a aft driven water pump,carb, throttle or spark control,it turn over fine and has no scoring on exhaust side . Is there a market for this? does any one still run them. Tom |

Actually they are quite common.
There were several at the Mystic Seaport Antique Engine Exposition last month. They are real good runners.

The serial number is missing the last digit. Looks to me it should be a 2 for 1922. The other numbers fit the serial number pattern correctly. Does the water pump have a three bolt mounting flange for bolting to the cylinder??? The Q-2 came on stream in 1907. There should be a oil/fuel mix tag just to the left of the the timer drive shaft on the same level as the serial number with same tag mounting hole spacing as the serial number tag. Those tags started appearing in 1910 when two stroke makers learned to mix oil in the fuel for cylinder lubrication. |

Here are some Q-2 numbers which bracket your number. 1818423, 1979024, 2107824.. This YT-1 number 1976024 simply shows Palmer assigned their serial numbers one up without regard to model with the last two digits the year of manufacture. . Their practice was as an engine passed final test to assign the serial number. The last two digits as the year of manufacture started in 1908. The earliest serial numbers following that practice I have are C-249-08, M1-553-08, C032809 and C050809. |
