HI, I had a nice running M60 palmer in my sailboat, up until recently this has been a wonderful, and very reliable motor for 35+ years. It starts fine, but if I open up the choke more than 3/4 it just dies. I was recently told that even though I add lead attitive, and seafoam, my use of regular unleaded fuel with the 10% ethanol is my problem, and could very well ruin the motor. I only use about 5 gallons a year. If this is all true, what should I be running? I plan on rebuilding the carb this weekend. I hate the thought of ruining the engine, as it has been well maintained, and still has good oil pressure, and compression. |

Check your local fuel distributor to find a sales point for ethanol free fuel. Check the local private airport for ethanol free fuel also. Old airplane owners can't risk using deathanol |

All,thank you for your help, I am going to rebuild the carb this weekend. I'm going to plug the exsisting fuel line, until I can drain the fuel cell on the hard over winter. I will use a portable fuel cell, with he proper fuel, before I re-start the engine, so there should be no traces of the old fuel in the system. What kind of engine damage, if any should I be looking for, since I previously used fuel with ethanol? |
