I have a 1974 Volvo Penta MD2B fresh water cooled engine that has been sitting for some time. Recently a mechanic and surveyor said they had the engine running, however, it has not started for me. While reading a post I learned of squirting oil into the cylinders through the airfilter. While this action worked like a charm, the engine now runs at very high idle regardless of throttle position. I've tried to manually adjust it, but no luck. Any thoughts or suggestions would grealty be appreciated.

Do you have to inject oil every time to start it? What is the ambent temp. when starting? How long was it sitting before starting? How did the mechanic/surveyor start it? Did it only run at high idle for him?

Ambent was spelled as such because the board would not allow the usual word for surrounding temp. Why? I have no idea but would welcome an explanation.

Can anyone tell me why the common word for surrounding tempurture is not allowed?

The word starts with an a and ends with a t in between is bien.

Since it sat for a long time the injector pump linkage may be stuck internally. Try working the throttle full range idle to full a bunch of times and see if that helps. This is assuming that the throttle is working ok from the lever to the engine.

Try using a few shots of Kroil on the linkage.
