For a little research, would anyone be able to assist with sources of information/images/drawings/fitout of the standard 24-30ft wooden clinker ships lifeboats as used around 1900-15? I have contacted Harland and Wolff of Belfast (whose chief draftsman designed the type)and they are hunting around for me. The problem is they have recently downsized, and their records have been 'archived' but not indexed. Also any images of P&O ship HMT DEVANHA, broken up in Osaka in 1928. All tips greatly appreciated. John, I will check our Australian Heritage Fleet Library (Sydney, Australia) for you. We have over 30,000 photos. Will get back to you towards the end of next week. Tim |

John, I checked the Australian Heritage Fleet library image collection. There are four photos of the HMT DEVANHA - 2 that are approx. 3x4 inches and two that are approx. 2x3 inches. I will phone to advise how you can get copies. I didn't have time to check about the lifeboats -a bigger order as we have plans, magazines, images etc. |
