We dont often talk about steam engines in our discussions . But I have seen this most interesting engine . It is a twin cylinder duplex of unknown make . It started life as a power plant for a steam rail car in 1888 . It eventualy was installed in a fishing boat and used in the Albany area of West Australia . It worked between Albany and Two Peoples Bay ,the skipper caught fish ,smoked them and returned to Albany and sold them . The smoking was done over a fire on the beach . The boat and its engine then started towing a fruit barge on the Kalgan River ,still in the Albany area. The original hull is still afloat at Emu Point . Now the engine is installed in ''Whisper'' wher it is used by the present owner Simon Verest on the Kalgan River . Steam is raised by a Flash Boiler . |

I have now found out from whence the engine came .It was in a steam powered motor car, a ''Locomobile'',we believe of about 1902 vintage. |
