I bought this on the spur of the moment in poor lighting and in a rush. When I got it home, I realized it didn't
have a water pump on it - bummer. Then it dawned on me that that it didn't even have place for a water pump.
Finally, I realized that the pully made as an integral part of the coupling would have been belted to a water
pump. There was a bucket of odds and ends with the engine and in the bucket was this gear pump. I suppose
the engine was so small there really wasn't much of a place to put a pump. Other oddities include the piston
with a channel in it and the lack of any hand hole plates. I cannot see any place where there might have been
a name tag on it and I couldn't find a serial number stamped onto it anywhere. Any ideas on it's identity?

Many yrs ago 1980's I was trying to ID an old marine engine and had my first phone conversations with Dick Day he gave me sage advice that has held true and helped with ID's on many occasions since " Look at the basic casting design".
With that in mind and measuring the bore and stroke of this engine we may be able to put a mfgrs name to it ??
This is a 1904 ad and a few yrs earlier than your eng but look at the casting design ?
This little eng was 1Hp up to 1906-07 then discontinued but the 2 Hp was still advertised but it had a different casting design although both were called "Bull Pups" ?
This 1906 ad shows the 1 Hp eng on the left side of the ad and the larger 2 Hp on right !
Does the bore and stroke match the ad ?

The bore and stroke on my engine are consistent with those of the 1hp Bull Pup. The timer on the one above left in the ad is hard to make out but it looks like it could well be the same as the one on mine. There is no evidence that mine ever had a water pump other than an external one run off the pully. There are no cut off pedestals, bosses, screw holes, etc., indicating something is missing or altered. Nevertheless, I can accept this one as being a 1 hp Bull Pup.
