Does any one have any information a this engine . It is a two cylinder ,two stroke ,water cooled engine . It is fitted with a Amal 55 type carburettor. Starting is by a rope pull |

Peter,
I believe I have a feature on the engine from the Yachting World and Motor Boat Journal (from Britian).
If my memory serves me correctly, its shaft went thru the hull vertically and it had an outboard type prop on the bottom end and a steering wheel at the top end - am I correct?
I'll need to go thru my copies of articles from 1928 to 1970's - not finished yet.
I'll post something again early next week. |

Tim ,I have not seen this engine yet ,but it has been described to me as a marine engine , i may be able to get it . However it might also be from a walk behind rotary hoe .The Name British Anzani of course conjures up visions of a marine engine. I will eventually see it and then maybe we will know .....it might make an interesting conversion . I am going off to Bremer Bay next week for a few days ,there is a private museum there and sure to be some marine exhibits . |

The engine I described earlier is a Brittania - its very unusual. I'll post a picture of it later.
I did find something in the 1951 and 1953 editions of Yachting World (English magazine).
There isn't much at this stage but I'll keep my eyes open.
The first item is from an article on the 1951 Earls Court Motor Show. The 4HP British Anzani was one of the few new engines to be displayed that year - as follows 
The second item is part of a 1953 advertisement from the same magazine. It shows a somewhat different 4 HP Anzani inboard - as follows 
In respect of marine engines Anzani is best known for its outboards. The above engine images are the only inboards I've been able to identify thus far.

Thanks Tim ......I have heard from Martin Osborne [ very nearly the same name ] Martin has a page on British Anzani ,i found it by going through the previous postings . He ,Martin tells me that there was such an engine referred to as the dingy engine and they are as rare as hens teeth . I am not yet sure if i can get this engine but at least i will get a picture of it
I got back from Bremer Bay tonight saw many Whales and a small Chapman Pup with a kick or lever start . It was in the Bremer Bay museum . |
