Hello All,
This is an Australian Invincible which I believe is a rebadged US Fairfield. The mountings appear to be an addition by Invincible to "marinise" the engine. The bore is 4 1/8 and stroke of 4 1/2.
Invincible were an Australia company with branches in the US. They imported castings from the US up until around 1929.
Is anybody able to confirm that this is indeed a Fairfield?

Mark- It is indeed a Fairfield. Here are pictures of one made in Fairfield, Iowa. Apparently Fairfield imported a bunch of engine to Australia. One boat load of engines was "sunk" and Lloyds of London paid out on the sinking only to mysteriously see the engines turn up re-badged as Invincibles. Yours one looks like a marine adaptation.

Your engine looks just like mine. One thing, you wouldn't have a picture of the valve gear side of your engine? Does yours have a water pump driven of the cam gear (under the cover) like mine or is the mag driven from there?
I suspect that the mag should be where the gear type water pump is on mine underneath the carb and the water pump should be driven off the end of the cam shaft between the flywheel and crankcase.

Here ya go. These originally had a buzz coil (Pfahnsteel sp) and a simple contact where the mag gear goes. Carby was a Holley model K (for kerosene)- dual fuel... will run on kero after heating it on gas. |

That's great. Now I know how it shoud be. At the moment it's got a mag on it (not shown in the pics) that's driven from the end of the camshaft by way of a bicycle sprocket and chain.
It's very rough conversion with a massive amount of play so I'll put it right now I can see what it should look like.
