Move the lever aft away from the engine for reverse vince, buy the way cold starting, open the throttle fully out of gear and depress the brass cold start button on the injection pump (you may have a cable attachment for this or not) turn the key to start and as sone as it fires up reduce the throttle to about a quarter and allow the engine to warm up a bit before reducing to tick over, the cold start will come off when you reduce the throttle.
hope this helps
Keith

Hi Vince, the tick over is the speed the engine runs at with no throttle the same as your car with your foot off the throttle when it is standing in the drive (the engine is ticking over), the cold start brass button is depressed when you cold start it, and the throttle is set to max for the start, when you reduce the throttle after the engine has fired up the brass button will automatically pop up again ready for the next cold start.

Hi all
I've just replaced the md2b on my boat with one i bought secondhand. It starts and runs perfectly and i have fitted and wired an alternator which is also working fine. However i have been starting it by hand cranking which is not easy and now want to fit a bosch dynastart just to do the starting bit....Does anyone know if it is ok to do this and is it just a matter of earthing the dynastart and running a battery 12v to it via a solenoid to wind it over. Also will it matter that i am not using the dynastart for charging purposes? All help on this will be greatly appreciated, thanks Roger.

"Tick over" equals "idle" in American English.
