I'll second that Richard. Thanks for all of the reference documentation that you freely offer for all of us to learn from and enjoy. Nice early oiler on that engine...and a very heavy flywheel. |

* THANKS for the appreciative words They are always good to hear ! Andrew, I was not aware that I was posting the milestone of a 2,500 th post, if I had I guess maybe a multiple or full page post with a lot of Pizzaz to commemorate the occasion, but the more I think about it a Turn of the century single cylinder two cycle "Old Marine Engine" is the essence of what this forum is about ! Thanks again for your special web site. Richard * |

Richard, LaCrosse is just down the river from me, so I like the Benton ad. Also, I need to do some research on the Duluth boat and engine manufacturers, there were a few up there, and I don't have a very good handle on them. Thanks, for posting both ads.

Thanks for that ad. Have you anything on Winona, MN? There were 3 companies there at one time or another. This one looks pretty iffy.

* Bill Steffes launch & Automobile Co. doesn't show up in any other engine lists but has been in my data base for awhile, first year of production was 1908 by 1912 an article in Motor Boat magazine on the Mississippi Valley Regatta the Racing boat "Liowa was powered with a 3 cylinder high performance Steffes Engine with Atwater-Kent ignition. * |

You certainly would NOT want to open the priming cup when you're riding the bike. |

* When riding and open the primer cup its called " Overdrive" ! Roger, I don't think that steffey made bicycles, they made the engine kit and they were installed on different bikes ? The bike above looks to have wooden rims ? * |

Open primer cup reminds me of that old holiday song, chestnuts roasting over and open fire. and agreed Steffey did not supply the bikes.. I have collected 7 or 8 very early bicycle motors. I like them as they are small |
