Can anybody tell me the distance from the bottom of the engine to the centerline of the output (propeller) shaft in a circa 1980 engine. I'm told by the builder that the boat was spected for this engine but the distance from the bottom of the boat to the shaft is just 3 inches.

Howard,

I have a 1GM10 (until next Tuesday when it will be sold with attached 18' putter). It seems from the webpage that you need at least 100 mm (4") below the centreline of your shaft plus a reasonable clearance for water, prevent chafing etc.: Regards Laurie http://www.yanmarmarine.com/theme/yanmar/uploadedFiles/engine_files/Technical%20 outline%20drawing/1GM10X_KM2P_1.pdf.
