I have recently aquired a Vim Motor, manufactured by The Vim Motor Co., Sandusky, OH USA. It is 2 cycle, 2 cylinders, 10hp. It is an Inline Marine Engine with a Schebler Model D Carb and its serial # is 1044. It has a 2 tower distributor cap. The cylinders are headless seperate units. I have been searching the internet looking for any kind of manuals or resource material. I need to know:
1. What kind/size of coil does it use.
2. What is the gas mixture.
Any help would ge greatly appreciated. |

Sounds like a nice engine.
I thought I had some Vim literature, but I can't seem to find it at the moment, maybe someone else has some.
You can go through the various posts to this board for miscellaneous info on 2 cycle marine inboards. You can also use the "keyword search" link on the left and seach for "lubrication", "coil", etc.
If this is your first marine inboard, I would suggest two resources:
Palmer Gas Engine Handbook
and
Old Marine Engines, by Stan Grayson
The Palmer Handbook has information on lubrication, ignition (including wiring diagrams), maintenance, clogged water jackets, etc.
The Old Marine Engine book is a mix of history and technical data and includes an engine index. It mentions Vim Motor Co, but doesn't have any specifics on it.
1) You will need two "Model T" type buzz coils.
2) You should mix oil to gas at 1:40. Should be non-detergent 30 wt oil.
