New coil, new plugs, polished points, rotor ok and still now fire. Jumpered from battery + to positive on coil. Neg on coil to distrubutor. Tested positive current to + on coil. Turned it over with 12 V (for a few seconds) and nothing to the spark plug. Suggestions? Mike |

you checked the gap on the points? the points are opening? I think I posted in another thread about turning it over in the dark. If you are getting high voltage leakage you will see the lightning where it leaks. If you haven't replaced the cap I would just do that anyway also. |

Hang the spark wire from the coil to a ground and see if it sparks there. If it does you have a problem in the distributor cap/roter etc. With that wire there, there will be little spark on the points. With the wire off the points should spark big so you can see it. |

Thank you Lawrence and Kim. Lawrence, when you say hang the spark wire from the coil to a ground is that the post marked + on the coil? If so, how to I get juice to the coil since the motor is sitting on a bench stand? Its a 6 volt coil and 6 volt battery. I assume I ground the - post on the battery to the engine. As you can tell, I'm a newbie to this electrical stuff. Thanks for your patience and help. Mike |

also make sure the contact at the top of the rotor is making contact with the button for the coil wire in the cap. especially if it is a new rotor you might need to bend the contactor out a bit...also also, make sure your cap is seated correctly, I wouldn't be surprised if you have a crack in the cap and are leaking high voltage out of the cap to ground. |

The whole engine and metal parts attched are grounded back to the battery.Including the outside metal of the coil. Most of the old systems will be positive grounded to the battery and negative to the starter and from there to the distributor through the switch. |

Sure enough! Checked the manual. It is positive ground. Thanks Lawrence, Mike |
