Hi All,
I have a Simplex 8 - 10hp engine with a Wico series A magneto. I bought the engine second hand a couple of years ago and am about to get it running (I hope). The magneto that came with it does not have any leads that connect to the spark plugs. Can you still buy the original leads or what leads are compatable with it? I'm hoping that car high tension leads might be able to be used. I am here in Melbourne Australia so any pointers towards local suppliers would be great.
Cheers
byron

You want solid wire core wires not the silicon suppressor wires used on new cars. There are suppliers on harry's old engine site smokestack.

thanks appreciate the advice - I'll let you know if I can't find anything in Melbourne. I'll look for solid core wires.

Folks, I am now the proud owner of 2 Simplex 10/12 twins. I am rebuilding one. The other is basically in 'parts' condition. I recently asked about points for the Wico 'A' series magneto and appreciate the advice. A mate who is into speedway motorcyles tells me that 'pointless' ignition (CDI?) systems can be fitted to such magnetos. His info. has a supplier near Gosford (NSW). I'd appreciate any advice in this regard. All the best for 2010 Laurie

Going to CDI system doesn't always work with old engines. I tried them out on several of my old engines, Chris Craft, Herculese and Chrysler Crown and Gray Marine Continental engines. CDI worked on the post War engines OK but on my 1939 Chris I had to go back to Ponts and Condenser.
