so ive been keeping my P-60 alive seemingly one piece of bubblegum and a bandaid at a time...a freind of mine came across a 3 cylynder gas motor and gen pack, its a pretty nice motor, wondering what the possability of building an adapter plate to fit the genny motor (a diahatsu 3 cylinder from a westerbeke genny some 47hp?) to the p-60's transmission? its an obx reverse gear? would it be worth it? short on cash an just want something reliable. if its a go ive got a running P-60 needs distributor, carb rebuild, choke controll, new dipstick releif cap, a good painting, an when i replaced the head gasket noticed the mating surfaces were getting thin... compression is decent, and intake manifold looks rough but is working, its rwc.. |

The OXKB forward coaxial bearing support and seal are in the engine portion with a drive spline pressed on the end of the crankshaft. You would have to create a replacement end plate with some sort of bearing support and seal for oil retention in the reverse gear. The drive spline is actually a precision gear which would require precision location in the adapter end plate. The large seals at the cranshaft ends in the P-60 are a part of the engine rather than the reverese gear. The crankshaft repeat crankshaft provides control of the angular displacement of the drive spline. Sounds like a very difficult job for little gain in my opinion. |
