an odd question for a first post, but here goes: Is it a good idea to change a replaceable element type oil filter for a spin on 10 micron hydraulic filter? assuming that the flow rate of the engine has been taken into account, I'm wondering would a filter element intended for hydraulic oil usage be capable of filtering diesel engine oil? |

Most guys try to get a filter for an engine not a hydrolic filter. Lots of filters will fit on the same base. Some places like napa have conversion kits. Most full flow engine filters will have a bypass so the engine gets oil if the filter is plugged. Hydrolic filters don't allways have that.Lots of people have made the change to spin on. |

Hi, thanks, I guess I should have said that the previous owner of the boat has already done this. I'm wondering if it is ok to leave it as it is, or would it be a better idea to replace it with something more appropriate? |
