We recently restored an 18' Lyman after 15 years on the hard only to discover the engine mounts had failed. Does anyone have experience rebuilding these mounts? |

I've tried to re-build them, but the repair only lasted a year or so. I found the rubber like material seems to reach an end-of-life condition - maybe it's a combination of aging of the molecular structure of the material plus the vibrations it absorbs. While the replacements seem expensive ( I paid $185 for 4 mounts) I eventually concluded it is a good thing to do - it helps prevent the engine vibrations going directly into the hull. |

Thanks for the post. Which Engine Mounts did you go with? I am a little confused. when I look at these mounts it appears that the Stud\2 nuts have been replaced with a hex bolt.. I did not see any markings to identify the manufacture. The boat is in a remote location so I will not be able to remove them soon. |

I've never rebuilt those type of mounts, My Islander mounts were repalced before I purchased the boat with the stud type of mounts. I have seen them on Ebay as Mercruiser mounts. A 2 x 1/2 inch stud on rubber, vulcanized into a casting just like yours. The cost is about $39 each. Works great and allows for exact prop shaft allignment. Frank |
