Hello, My work progresses on the boat. I now have the oil pan gasket replaced and seems to have stopped the leak. As we now have accepted an offer on our house I need to step up the pace on getting the boat ready. I see on the board some references to replacing starter for the p-60 with a marine grade one. Has anyone identified which starter to use? Our starter works fine at the moment, I just feel any possible spare parts I carry is good planning.

Also, which type of oil to lube the distributor?

Thanks everyone,

Kevin

Mr. Day, I also meant to ask what gasket or gasket material should be used to connect the manifold to exhaust pipe. The existing one is copper and needs replacing badly.

Go to [email protected] Send John a pattern if he has not already made the Exhaust manifold to pipe flange gasket. You need a compressible copper gasket. He make excellent reproductions and is very reasonable. The tractor exhaust gaskets work fine for the block to the manifold. You need two.

If your starter is the standard
IHC CUB LO-BOY-C60 tractor starter you are not required by the Coast Guard to replace it with a marine starter. I don't know what date the marine starters became a CG requiment for marine engines so the date of manufacture of your engine decides what starter you must use as a replacement. That is my understanding of the rules.
