This oil cup is on eBay and I found one like it lying loose amongst a bunch of old marine engines. It didn't seem to go with any of those engines. What do they go on or were they used on a number of different engines?

Yup, that's it for sure! I have not found a Lathrop yet in my travels. Whether they weren't popular here or its just a fluke I don't know. I do run across a lot of Mianus, maybe that was the 'in' marine engine locally. Thanks JB. |

They never put any nickel in the iron and they all rusted out very quickly when they were in salt water |

The oiler in above photo is not a drip oiler as such but what Lathrop called an Oil Pump, the wooden handle opened access to lower end and plunger on top squirted oil on to rod and crankshaft, this instruction says pump every 30 mins or so but this I believe was on new engines and breakin period,other starting instructions I've read say before initial starting for the day pre lube crank bearing with a couple of pumps ?
I think that of all engine mfgrs of this time Lathrop left the oilers and oil pumps on his engines longer than any other mfgr, guess he wasn't quite convinced of the idea of mixing the oil and gasoline ?
