Questions again. Does any one have any idea or know the actual crankshaft end play clearance and if so where is it measured? As my engine has a tappered shaft ( approx 1.305 to 1.2 inches ) for the flywheel (haven't located one yet) does the flywheel fit thight up against the bevel gear or is there a spacer and if so what is the thicknes of the spacer? The other end of the crank is the output flange for a prop shaft and that has a tappered pin locating it against a spacer. Is that where a plunger type water pump would have the ecentric cam for the water pump. I haven't taken the motor appart yet but I want to know as much as possible before I do. Thanks Frank |

More Questions. Does any one know what the operating water temperature is for a Gray 4.5R or for that matter any Gray 2 cycle? I own 2 boats that have Gray 4 and 6 cylinder engines in them and I have to put a valued bypass line from the water outlet on the head back into the water pump to recirculate hot water to bring the engine temperature up to about 120 Degrees F. The water pump on the 4.5R that is on the engine has 2 outlets, one directly into the mounting flange that mates to the flange of the engine which is ¼ pipe and the other is a 3/8 pipe. The engine outlet is ½ pipe. The engine has a 3/8-pipe inlet just under the exhaust flange. When I took the pump off the engine the flange had a gasket partially covering the ¼ pipe outlet/inlet and the 3/8-pipe outlet had a plug in it. Which one should I use? |
