I have a customer that has brought me a launch that belonged to his wife's great uncle who died about 6 years ago. He was using it up until he died. He was the 2nd owner of it. It has a r model gray in it. I'm trying to get it to run. I've gotten it to start and run for 20 seconds or so. But have not been able to keep it running. The carb is a krice carb and its clean. I have a good spark. What I'm looking for is a step by step starting procedure. Where to set advance ,throttle etc and where to set the levers once its running. Another problem is the water pump outlet has been plugged and and the water line to the engine comes from the bottom of the boat. I don't see how its suppose to flow water because the outlet for the water has been rigged off the inlet line. Does the water exit from around the exhaust outlet? If not where? Does anyone know how its suppose to be plumb. How do you check the engine oil in the crankcase? See attached picture of water lines. serial number is 145R11513.

Jim,
First; you've come to the right place for information. There are many good men here who will be glad to help. Good information can also be had at smokstak.com. I have recently gotten a very similar engine running with the help of some of these men and from information from these sites.
Pump inlet is where the 90 degree fitting is, outlet into water jacket is between mounting bolts of pump. Water discharge is at top of cylinder near spark plug. Fuel mix is 40:1.
No oil in crankcase. Engine and Krice carb. information is available. I suggest you search the two sites for any and all information...it's there but takes patience to find it.
I'm in Southern Md. and would be glad to offer my limited abilities if you're nearby.
Good Luck,
Warren

No need for one. Dribble/squirt a little gas mix into the primer - rock the flywheel back and forth a couple times-- close the primer cock and retard the timer and close the battery switch. Bounce the flywheel clock wise against compression- when it fires; advance the timer- runs anti-clockwise.

I got it running a little bit today. Now I need to hook water up to it and see how it does. Once its running as far as adjusting the throttle and advance do I just move them around till it runs the smoothest. When its running do I need to lift the lever on the oiler for it to drip oil?

run a two cycle oil/gas mix- don't use the oiler. A plastic bucket of Water and a couple hoses in and out of the pail work fine...

also can you run the magneto with a 12 volt battery instead of a 6 volt. I have to put a new bilge pump and no one makes a 6 volt anymore.

consider a separate independent( lawn tractor?) battery for the 12 volt Bilge pump. Low draw/intermittent operation..should last a while
