Hello, I've recently changed boats and now have a boat with an inboard Sabb 2H engine with a fixed pitch prop and reverse gearbox. It's the first time I've had a Sabb so I'm unfamiliar with it, and though the user hand book is pretty good it's a bit confusing in the area of oil changes and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've done an engine oil and filter change no problem, but when I checked the gear box oil level it was way above the full mark on the gear box dip stick. The oil was dirty and definately needs changing. The hand book tells me to remove the gear box cover and flush the gear box out with fuel oil and wipe it dry before refilling with just half a litre of SAE 20 lubricating oil, but this just doesn't seem to be enough oil. The hand book says that the clutch housing also takes half a litre of lub oil, but the clutch and reverse gearbox all seem to be in the same housing with the fixed prop configuration, so I'm wondering if I should put a full litre back in there, half a litre for the clutch and half for the reverse gearbox. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks Peter |

fyi, my Yanmar SB12 has a gearbox with forward & reverse which has an integrated`clutch like yours; 0.5 L for it. It sounds like the SAAB has the option of a variable pitch prop with a clutch that must be engaged. How do you like the SAAB? I'm thinking about swapping my one cylinder 12 HP for a SAAB H2.
