Nat Hammonds site vmls.com lists a catalog for Thayer Marine engines -1904 at Plainfield NJ.Any speculation on the Tholepin(tm) -Thayer and company in VA mentioned in a previous 2004 post and this Thayer engine company??

Bruce, I don't have Thayer in my list of marine engine mfgrs, I must have missed Chucks post above, also no Tholepin in list. Tholepin is a cool name for a marine engine they were very old nautical pins fitted in the gunwale plank and were used like the later oarlock !!

I looked at Nats list and he lists a "TYGARD " engine Co. in 1904 Plainesfield N.J. ?? This Company I have listed but another one of the very obscure with little known info so far !

Let me know if anyone comes up with info on any of these Mfgrs.

I have an ad on the Tygard engine from an early 1900s Scientific American magazine. It explains reciprocating concept & has pictures. If anyone wants to see it I'll happily e-mail it to them. James Wallace Tygard was involved, along w/his Dad & brothers. Lyn Tygard Grow
