I am going to try and start subject engine and would like some advice as to the proper procedure. I have rebuilt the fuel pump and carb. The engine turns over nicely by hand - a few years ago I put some oil into each cylinder. I read somewhere that marvel mystery oil sould be put into each cylinder and turned over by hand then let it sit for an hour and do it again and then once again. Sounds like a reasonable thing to do. Any suggestions on how to proceed. The engine has been installed in a boat undergoing frefinishing for this period of time and has been stored inside for the whole period. The oil looks fine but I think I will change it. Othe suggestions?? Thanks Cliff gaer /.plan |

I usually take the plugs out after the engine has sat over the winter and crank it until I see oil pressure.I then let it sit for a couple of minutes and repeat.
On the second cranking, the oil pressure should fall more slowly than the first.
Once you started it I'd run it for about 30 seconds and turn it off and wait for another 5 minutes again looking at the oil pressure.
You want to get lubricating oil into the bearing before reving it too high.
You should see blue smoke initially but it should clear after a couple of minutes running.
