I am trying to find out what type of inboard engine may have been installed on a 1930's era Dyer Dhow or Dink. It was used as a dinghy or tender. The boat has LOA of 10' 0" and beam of 54". The engine mount is show in the attached photo. The mounting bolts are 7 1/2" apart width wise and 5" apart fore and aft. The shaft exited the hull through a bronze fitting approx 35 1/2" further aft of the center of the engine mount. Any info or clues about the types of engines that Dyer may have used at this time would be appreciated.

It would be interesting to know whether they used a marine B and S, or just used a standard B and S with the reduction gear. I have an air cooled Lauson from the same period, that was removed from a factory built boat from Michigan, that the factory just took a normal stationary motor, put a flame arrester on it, instead of the more expensive marine version. |

Contact Peter Brewster at Dyer. I worked for Dyer in 1963 and they had records of the three 29' boats I worked on. Tell them Ted Bromage referred you. They have a great historical file. Ted

Also, any info about where to possibly source the 1 HP Briggs and Stratton Engine listed in the table above would be appreciated.

Hi---I have a 1947 Dyer Dink with an inboard engine. Boat was restored last year and looks great. The engine is a Kermath seapup single cyl. in great condition. I have been incontact with Dyer and they were able to tell me the original owner. There is alot of mahogany and beautifully built. If you need more info don't hesitate to ask. Ray |
