Just recently spotted an early inboard in the 1941 movie "Topper Returns" - it was started by inserting a rod into a hole radially on the flywheel, and throwing it hard to the left. They started it several times in the movie. Looked dangerous! There appeared to letters cast into the side of it, ending with "LT". Has anyone seen this before, or any ideas what it might be? I can try to get digital photos off my TV if interested. |

I also noticed in the foreground a single cylinder motor driving what must be a small generator. I'll try to get screen shots from the DVD. There can't be too many motion picture images of this stuff. You can even see it belch smoke out the carb when he starts it. Good stuff |

I saw a 3 stooges movie once, where they are in a small boat that sinks. In the boat was a very small exposed 4 cylinder motor. Not much, but I thought it was neat compared to everything usually having an outboard on it. |

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4732710015928288721 Found this streaming video of the Movie "Topper Returns" the scene where the engine is shown is about 2/3 thru it it has the HOLT sideplates i was not aware that HOLT manufactured a marinized version of the combine engine or was this a stage prop dressed up as a marine engine. Holt would of been a local company for a hollywood set.... it does not show the reverse gear???? |
