I have what i think to be a post 1967 pw-27 with reverse gear starter /gen, electric fuel pump used for sailboat aux. engine. I am wondering what type of water pump I have.I have a cam driven water pump with only one grease cup, and a plate on the rear which looks to be the access cover to an impeller. It does not have the elbow housing I see when looking at the pictures of the bh-25 model (bronze type ) so suspect it is the impeller type but am hesitate to pull it apart during boating season (Murphy's Law you know). Can impellers be purchased ? What are my options
I am having trouble establishing prime when i fire up the engine. very finicky, have to really crank down on grease cup it appears, may be wrong grease (too thin)?, but if it is the impeller type what is function of grease cup. Impellers are self priming or so I thought

Mark,
I got your order and your manuals will be shipped to you tomorrow.
The PW-27 manual does not give the manufacturer's part number for the water pump. I "think" it is a Jabsco 4530-0003 and the Impeller Kit is a 4528-0001. Maybe Dick or Ernie or anyone else can let us know if this is not correct. I can supply the pump and/or replacement impeller.

You should be able to remove the circular cover plate and inspect the impeller without risking too much of Murphy's rath. The impellers do wear out.

That is a rubber (Neoprene) impeller.

I don't believe the fact the grese is too thin causes his priming problem. I think his impeller has worn out an probably put a lot of rubber in the water line to the cylinder. Either that or the inlet water line is partially plugged. Use the key word search under "water pump grease" and you will find the telephone number of Bobs antique auto parts. It was posted back about July 12th I think. I don't have the Jabso impeller number handy. Sorry about that. Misplaced it and so guess its up to you Andrew. |

I have a Jabsco Model 2160 water pump for a GraySeaScout4(1940-1956)the impeller is rubber number AL24-37.This may not be the correct impeller I would like to confirm and find a place to locate an impeller. |

This should have been posted in the Gray category, not the palmer... but the pump is show here in pdf format.
The impeller is Jabsco part number 4528-0001 which as available as Sierra part number 18-3079.
