Just back from this years Variety classic boat regatta,Kogarah Bay Sydney Australia. This day is put on by Variety which is a childrens charity which raises funds for disabled childrens needs. My daughter Ruby is one of these children{she has Rett Syndrome}. The day is held at St George Motor boat Club and surrounding grounds, food stalls and swap and trash and treasures stall are plenty. The boats range from puttputts to classic large motor yachts. A procession of all attending vessels leaves the club and after a a couple of hours makes its way back. I think the number of old clinker ski boats that attended would put a Yankee show to shame. Horse power on the day was from a five hp Simplex to a 26 foot hydroplane called Aggressor which has a super charged Rolls Royce Merlin which has to be heard to be believed. Our boat the Rubytoo performed well due to her trusty Stuart Turner p55. My wife and Mother attended and said they would come next year which is always a sign of a good day. My thanks to Variety and the sponsors for a absolutely well run and enjoyable day. Matt Balkwell skipper of the RUBYTOO. |
