The fuel pump on my 64ish Fireball V8 401 gave out over the weekend. From what I can tell it has the original pump on it, which are easy to find. My question is, would it be in my best interest to pull the old pump, cap off the access hole and replace it with a 12v electric? If so, what PSI and GPH flow rate do I want. The carb is, like the pump, the original Rochester 4gc. Thanks for the help. |

The fuel pump on my V8-401 went out soon after I restored the boat and I thought since it was a Delco, that it would be easy to find. It is not the fuel pump that comes on the Buick of the same vintage. It is a double-diaphragm pump, I guess for marine purposes. This was about 4 years ago and I did an exchange with GrayMarine parts, but they no longer seem to be in business. It could be tough to find an exact replacement and you might have to put an electronic one on it.

For oldish gas engines a 5psi pump is best. You normally get plenty of flow. For a diesel you would need a 10psi. |
