I have been trying (finally successful I hope) to sort out the wiring with the Sabb 2H I have. Some things I'm not totally certain about -firstly a green light which is connected down to the starboard side of the crankcase and attached to a small fitting there. Is that for oil pressure, does anyone know please? If so, how does it work? Secondly there is also a red light connected to the alternator - presumably that shows there is some output from that? (there is an ammeter anyway). The red and green lights are on when ignition switched on before starting. Finally the alternator doesn't seem to have any regulator attached to it. There have been no problems yet, so does that mean none is needed (to stop overcharging)? Thanks v much. |

Hi Guy, The green light wire goes down to the oil pressure switch on the block and shorts to earth at under 12psi or less approx depending on the switch, making the light come on to tell you there is very little oil pressure. The wire from the red light does go to the alternator and this needs to have a working bulb in it to excite the field windings and make the altornater work, the unit will have a diode regulator mounted on the back normally with vents in the casting. unless it is very old in which case the wire from the alternator would go to a control box like a 4tr and 16ra along with at least three other wires. Going back to the type I first mentioned, which I believe you have, the large wire marked B goes to the battery and the one on the casting goes to the engine earth and back to the battery. Hope this helps Keith. |
