Hercules 95 K storage I have in storage a rebuilt 95 K which I drained and fogged about one year ago. My question is do I need to turn this engine over or just leave it alone. I may not need it for two more years. Should the oil be circulated before turning and how is this done? |

I have a pair of these. I would turn them over at least once a year, 2 or 3 times is better. Pull the spark plugs and add oil to the cylinders first. Turn them over (by hand)and then add more oil and close them up. You could put a battery on it to get the oil pump working but I would turn it by hand first. The oil will eventually drain to the crank case, so change it before starting it. Also be sure to remove the coil mounting bracket. There is a water jacket access behind it and this will help insure that the coolant is out. Perhaps bolt it on loosely to keep critters out. Block off carb intake and exhaust pipe with tape to keep moisture from causing the valves to stick. |

I have a 1963 Pearson Triton with small four cylinder Herc. in it. I believe it to be an 18 hsp. I'm looking for info on this engine. If there is anyone out there that knows about these small marine engines, I'd appreciate an email. Thanks... email add. is; [email protected] |

Gene, Find which model of Hercules four cylinder it is by looking on the block just below the head on the port side of the engine. There will be a raised boss in the casting with a combination of letters and numbers stamped in. Post it here. Regards, Andrew |
