Very interesting thanks for posting this Richard. I enjoyed seeing and reading about the life boat. How would you like to have a old boat of that size to play with now?
I noticed they used a 12hp Superior two cycle two cylinder engine weighing in at 1,350 lbs. I wonder if they knew that Detroit Engine Works 12hp two cycle two cylinder engine only weighed 370 lbs. Detroit's 20hp only weighed 400 lbs. |

I was particularly fascinated by the V-drive, driving dual shafts and propellers with independent variable pitch- handled like a twin !

That was different. I bet the gear drive was noisy and a mess not being enclosed in a casing. |
