Joseph Van Blerck (I think) He was quite a pioneer. I wonder if the GEM article by Max Homfeld is in their online archives now? September 1993. |

This is a Model N Van Blerck from the mid-'20s when Van Blerck had a factory in Plainfield, New Jersey. It is a side-valve engine and, while certainly competitive with others of the general type, is of entirely different concept than the lavish T-head models built earlier by the Van Blerck Motor Company in Michigan. This model has nothing to do with later Continentals marinized by Van Blerck. Watch for a Van Blerck article later this year to appear in WoodenBoat magazine. |

Stan, Thanks. Have you done a search of this board for Van Blerck? Use the search link at the top of this page. There were pictures of an interesting Van Blerck from England posted a while ago. We will watch for your article in WoodenBoat. Let us know which issue it will appear in. We would enjoy hearing from you more often. You should register here on the board and you can choose to have new postings from certain categories emailed to you. For those of you who don't know, Stan wrote the book Old Marine Engines as well as Engines Afloat I and II |
