I have a 2 cyl thrall that has cast iron water jackets instead of the usual copper water jackets can anyone tell me why they are cast iron and about what year this engine is thanks in advance |

Looking at the photo and thinking out loud- the water jackets appear to have the contour of the lathe spun copper domes, the round flat flange at the center top looks just like the ones used to hold down the regular domes and thread the spark plug into. Maybe take a little paint off and see if they are copper ??
1909-1910 Thrall went through many chnges they recast the cylinders with a plate on the port side putting the intake and exhaust together, Not sure but I don't think this Company surrvived as late as WWI- pressed to date this one I would guess 1912 ca. |

Richard thank you so much for posting photo and for the info . The water jackets are definately cast iron . the engine was stuck and had a small crack in one jacket . I removed one jacket and brazed up the small crack . I was told it was a thrall and it looks like one . maybe it is something else . If you get more info let me know .thanks again Jerry |

I don't think there is any question that it is a Thrall. Some pics below of a couple of single cylinder ones. Note where the tag is and where it was on yours
You can use the search function at the top of the page and put in Thrall. There is a ton of stuff here on OME.
