Has anyone ever seen a engine manual for the single cylinder two cycle Detroit or Sandow Marine engine? I have seen the small pocket size operating manuals. I'm looking for the larger engine manual or catalog for marine engines. |

Johnny, I have two Detroit catalogs: Detroit Marine Engines, C.1911, 17 pages; Detroit Boat Company C. 1910, 24 pages. The Detroit Engine catalog covers several single cylinder models (2-8 hp) as well as a two cylinder model. It also has some information about the Detroit reverse gear. However, it is more of a sales catalog than a technical manual. The Detroit Boat Company catalog is mostly boats but does include a couple of Detroit marine engines. As with the engine catalog, it is more a sales tool than a technical manual. Both of these are photocopies of photocopies so the quality is low. Nevertheless, I can make you a copy of each if you don't have them already. Off the subject but of interest, the Detroit Boat Company catalog illustrates a Detroit single cylinder MARINE ENGINE with the TWO PIECE Detroit injector. It also illustrates the 'new fuel feeder' which I refer to as the acorn type. The distinction Detroit makes between the two is that the two piece was meant to run on gasoline and the fuel feeder allowed use of kerosene, coal oil, alcohol, napha, as well as gasoline. |
