This exploded view shows the pump housing. The red arrow points to the approximate location of one of two holes (the other is diametrically opposite) which are the source of my leak. The holes seem to be partly closed by the 2 sealing rings shown. What purpose do the holes serve? |

I have an Volvo MD1B s/n 19975 built in Sweden in 1972 that I am trying to restore to running condition. I recently had the injection pump and injector rebuilt but I can not get the throttle/control lever to run the engine properly. I can start the engine with the cold start but when it pops off the engine dies when it is under load. I can sometime get the engine to idle and accelerate properly when sitting at the dock but not under load. My centrifugal governor does not have a governor spring on the control lever like some recent models. Is there a procedure for adjusting the linkage between the governor and the injection pump. I have attached an exploded view of the governor linkage in my engine. Any assistance would be appreciated. Mart G. PS:Could my problem be the fual pump? |

The pump seals are available from Volvo. You can get them online at torresen marine. http://www.marinedieseldirect.com/ |

I have a 1973 Volvo MD2B in my boat. It starts and runs well. However, there is a leak from the cooling water pump. I have been told that this is because a water seal, or seals, needs to be replaced: if it/they is/are not replaced, then - in time - water will get into the crankcase. I have ordered from a supplier a kit of gasket, etc, and seals. But can someone tell me just how the seal, or seals, are replaced? For instance, does the whole pump have to be taken off the engine, or can the job be done by taking-off the face-place and pulling-out the impellor and shaft, etc. ? I look forward to hearing from people who know just how to do this - Thank you. |

Late on this post but might help someone. If it is like the one on my MD11c take the pump off. the old style raw water pump has two seals back to back. One to keep water out of engine and one to keep oil in engine with gap in between to allow for the weep holes to work correctly.last seal into the pump just gets pushed flush in the pump housing. |

I agree with others on here but if there was oil leaking from the holes the opposite seal (engine side) would be faulty. |
